Our Lady of the Rock was instrumental in bringing White Cotswolds to the Pacific Northwest before 1990. This breed has been listed on the endangered list by the American Livestock Breed Conversancy.
We decided to specialize in the Black (Colored) Cotswolds, which is basically an American breed. The first registry recording Black Cotswold lambs was established in 1990. The fiber on these animals has to be seen to be believed! It has a high silver to black sheen. Often three or four colors can be found in one fleece, which is ideal for hand spinners.
Cotswolds are a friendly, hardy, breed with long dreadlocks. They are self-sustaining and do not require special feed. The flock at the monastery forages nine months of the year.
Our Lady of the Rock's flock has won many awards including at the National level.
We have always had strong interest in our fibers, due to the high quality. After a very in-depth article in the Wild Fibers Magazine in the Fall of 2008, the demand has risen even more. We are therefore offering our fibers for sale online. Please contact our Guest Mistress for more information on product availability. Our stock is constantly changing so please check back if you do not find what you are looking for at this time.
